This year marks the 17th anniversary of the European Court of Human Rights decision in the case of D. H. and Others v. Czech Republic, which authoritatively identified systemic issues within the Czech education system leading to violations of the prohibition of indirect discrimination and the segregation of Romani students. This remains the longest-standing, unimplemented judgment in the history of the ECHR.
Efforts to address this judgment reveal deep systemic problems related to the absence of the principle of plurality and the application of the prohibition of discrimination in education. What is the current reality of Roma segregation in the education system?
This question will be the focus of a workshop organized by the Centre in collaboration with the Romani Studies Seminar at the Institute of Ethnology and Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts of Charles University (ÚESEBS FF UK), on April 19, at 9:30 AM in Room no. 38. More information about the workshop can be found at this link and in the attached invitation.
We look forward to seeing you there! 💛
