O události

The Center for Constitutionalism and Human Rights hereby invites you to a public hearing on the topic

Forced Labor and Forced Assimilation in the Uighur Region

which will be held on October 20, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Senate Chamber.

Part of the program will be the presentation of a policy paper entitled "Recommendation to the public authorities of the Czech Republic regarding the genocide of the Uighurs in the People's Republic of China". This strategic document was created on the initiative of the students of the Law Faculty of the Charles University, who followed up on a series of  public lectures by the CHR devoted to the issue of the position of the Uyghurs in the People's Republic of China. Sir Geoffrey Nice, chairman of the Uyghur Tribunal, Aldo Zamit Borda, an expert on international criminal justice, and Gulbahar Haitiwaji and Kalbinur Sidik, who survived imprisonment in Chinese concentration camps, also spoke as part of the lectures.

The current relationship between the Uyghur minority and the People's Republic of China is characterized by systematic violations of human rights by the People's Republic of China, at an intensity that with a high degree of probability constitutes crimes against humanity and possible genocide. In order to strengthen the reaction on the part of the Czech Republic, or of the international community, thus a policy paper was created in which the authors formulate a system of recommendations, the implementation of which will make it possible to exert pressure on the People's Republic of China in the direction of enforcing the protection of the human rights of the Uyghur minority.

We will be very happy if you take the time to come and listen not only to the performance of PF UK students, but also to many other interesting guests. The program will include the testimony of direct victims and survivors of forced labor and other human rights violations, including genocidal policies, in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. A number of international and domestic experts and personalities advocating for the protection of human rights of Uighurs and other minorities in the People's Republic of China will also speak.

If you are interested in the event, please write to the addresselbournovam@senat.cz until 17/10/2023.
